Shenington 19.02.2022

We really are pushing ourselves at the moment! Jonny was off to Evolve Motorsport during the week to get the carburettors tested to try and solve the engine starting problems of the last couple of race weekends. A quick prep and load the van and we were off to Shenington to compete against a formidable grid, including those tipped to be at the front of the national championships this year. Great education even if it is a little tough taking on the older more experienced competitors. We set a goal of finishing in the top 25, knowing we would be proud of ourselves if we could achieve it.

Mixed weather conditions

A dry morning for the two practice sessions has us feeling confident the set up was right for the first heat of the day… Then it rained. A quick change to a wet set up and we were on track for the first heat. The first two heats resulted in 18th place finishes as the kart just didn’t feel quite right. For heat 3 we put some older wet tyres on and the kart was much better and Jonty took 13th position.
The heat results gave us 21st on the grid for the final. The engine bogged down leaving the pits and Jonty ended up just catching up to the back of the field for the start of the race. Some great racing in a pack of 4-5 karts, overtaking each other most laps. Jonty ran as high as 25th before taking the chequered flag in 26th, disappointed to have lost a place on the last lap.

Lots of lessons to learn from the racing. It is half term next week so we will study together in the week in preparation for the race at Whilton Mill next weekend where the hard work continues.
